Diagnostic Examinations in Multiple Myeloma

Recommended examinations at the level of general practitioners, neurologists, orthopaedists or physiotherapists:

  • laboratory: FW, KO (especially in anaemia), total protein, calcium, ALP, urea, creatinine, ELFO (in case of suspicion for paraprotein immunofixation),
chemical examination of urine – immunoelectorphoresis in case of proteinuria
The total price of these examinations lies around CZK 120–200, or CZK 1,000 when including immunofixation of monoclonal Ig in blood.
  • radiography: simple X-ray examination of painful skeleton (osteolytic lesions or serious osteoporosis, compression vertebral fracture...).
The price of one targeted X-ray is around CZK 160–230.
Skeleton scintigraphy is not suitable for diagnosing myeloma.

In case of pathologic values of one or more of these examinations reporting the risk for multiple myeloma diagnosis, refer the patient to the local hematology clinic!
